This morning I got the phone call no parent wants to get. It went something like this - Riley fell, she has a gash in her chin and we can't get it to stop bleeding. Insert sheer panic here!! Instead of asking questions my response is "I am leaving right now!!" My entire drive to day care included thoughts about how bad the cut is, was there blood everywhere, how scared is Riley right now.
Thankfully I arrived at day care in record time and saw Riley sitting quietly in a chair reading a book. She got up when she saw me and ran over and said "Eli bumped me off the ball." Missi showed me the cut and while it definitely was not as bad as I had imagined it in my head, it wouldn't stop bleeding. Jeremy showed up a few minutes later and we decided we would bring Riley in to see her pediatrician rather than sit in the ER. We got an appointment for 2:30 and it was only 12! We went home and ate lunch, after an hour we looked at the cut again and it was still bleeding. We made the decision (after talking with my big sis) that we would try Urgent Care instead of the ER. Again, I really never thought the cut was bad enough for stitches.
We got to Urgent Care and sure enough within seconds of being called back, the doctor took one look and said Riley needed a couple of stitches. Riley, who up until this point had been a champ began to freak out (secretly I did too - on the inside of course). She had to be strapped down, shot up and stitched up. Horrible experience for a parent and I am sure a horrible and traumatic experience for poor Riley. She screamed her head off, Jeremy and I promised her the world if she would just be a big girl and get the stitches in.
35 minutes later we walked out with a scared 3-year-old and 2 stitches. From there we went to Target for the present we promised her (a toy of her choice, no questions asked). What a trying day!! I truly hope we NEVER have to experiences this again!!
My brave little girl!
Toy of choice - Jessie from Toy Story!
By the end of the night it was business as usual - Coco Puffs (with no milk) for an after dinner snack!
